Bronsweapons, earrings and bones has been found in the Egyptian desert and could most likely solve one of the big mysterys in history.
A team of Italian researchers has now after 10 years digging found the place where 50.000 persian soldiers disaperd for about 2,500 years ago.
We have found the first arkelogical evidence for something that the greek historian Herodotos described.
says researcher Dario Del Bufalo at the university in Lecce.
Acordning to Herodotos the Persian king Kambyses II in the year 525 B.C sent 50,000 soldiers to Sahara desert to destroy a temple, since the priests refused to anknowledge his claims on Egypt. The army was supprised by a sandstorm and was burried alive. Since then several expeditions have been searching for traces after the army whitout any succes, most likely its because the soliders had taken a unkown road through the desert.
Researchers belives that the rest of the squad is burried close to their finding. Now they requested approval for making more research and digs.
