On the 9th of May 1671 the Irish crock Thomas Blood and his two friends to steal the crownjewels from the tower.
They knocked the guard Edward Talbot out, then Blood smashed the crown to be able to hide it under his coat. One of his friend placed the apple in his pants, while the other tried to break the stick so it could place in a bag, then they rushed against the entrance of Towern. During the time the guards son found his father in a pool of blood and sounded the alarm. In the last moment the guards managed to arrest B lodd and his friends that where taken back to the towern. The king Karl II where so impressed by the theft that he gave Thomas Blood liberty (instead of death that was a very common penalty for theft) and also promised him a very good pension for the rest of his life.
