When Florida defenceman Keith Ballard become angry over that Atlanta Thrashers Ilya Kovaltjuk was lucky to score on a bouncing puck, he decided to break his stick against the goalpost. But the first thing he managed to do was to hit his own goalie (Tomas Vokoun) in the head.
Vokoun dropped instantly to the ice removed his helmet and was bleeding from one ear, and was then removed from the game on a stretcher.
Teamate Bryan Allan says
No one is more depresed over this then Keith, he is really down. It was a freak accident.
