The cat that changed sides in the war..

In May 1941 the german battleship Bismarck was hit and sunk in battle against the english. About 200 of Bismarck´s crew on 2000 survied, their mascot Oscar, the shipscat did also survie, and was brougth to the english ship Cossack.
Oscar stayed on Cossack just for a few months, untill it sank, Oscar survived also this time, and turned up in Gibralatar where he lived whit the Guvenor.
Finaly Oscar was brought to Belfast Northern Irland where he lived in a home for sailors untill his passing in 1955.
But is this story true?
It seems to be to good for beeing truth and so it probably is, since there is no eyewittnes reports to the story even if the storys are many.
