The Dalton brothers where originaly from Jackson County, Missouri. Their father Lewis Dalton where a saloon kepper in Kansas City when he married Adeline Younger (Aunt of Cole and Jim Younger). By 1882 the family was living in Oklahoma, at that time indian territory, and by 1886 they had mobed to Coffeyville in the southern of Kansas. They got 15 children of them 13 become adults.
It is suspected that when the railroad took the family farm and the death of son/brother Frank started the Dalton brothers life off crime.
Frank Dalton was working as US Marshal deputy, he is said to have been the better of the brothers, well stabled, grounded and mature. His brothers respected him and sometimes they was riding whit him in posses. Frank had been tracking a horsethifef in Oklahoma territory when he confroted the suspect a shootout began, resulting in the death of Dalton and two Outlaws, another deputy where injured.
One week later te suspect where tracked by other lawmen and another shootout started, in this one US Marshal deputy Ed Stokley did shot and kill the suspect, but Stokley where also killed during the gunfight.
What his brothers where thinking no one knows, but perhaps they where hoping to avenge their brothers death, or simple following in his footsteeps, so the three younger brothers Gratton , Bob and Emmet Dalton become lawmen, But they where soon to change sides, since they where not getting paid for their dutys as lawmen.
Its said that Bob was the wildest of the brothers, his first kill happened when he was 19, at that time he worked as a US Marshal and claimed it was in the line of duty.
Bob the recruited George ”Bitter Creek” Newcomb, Charley Pierce and Blackfaced Charlie Bryant to ride whit him and his brother Emmet.
Later on, the gang would be bigger, whit Gratton Dalton, Bill Doolin, Dick Broadwell and Bill Powers.
The gangs first hit where a robbery against a gambling house in Silver City, New Mexico.
In 1891 after Jack Dalton had joined the gang, a Southern Paccific Railroad passenger train where robb. The gang where accused of the crime, based on little evidence.
Jack escaped and Bill was aquited, but Grat was aressted, Convicted and senteced to 20 years in prison.
During 1891 and 1892 the Daltons robbed four trains in Indian Territory, the gang was from time to time chased by posses but they managed to esacpe.
In 1892 the gang started to robb banks, one bank they sat out to rob was C.M Condon & Company´s Bank and First National Bank in Coffeyville, Kansas.
During this robbery the gang was wearing beards, since the people knew who they where, but still the people managed to identify them.
When they where busy holding up the banks, the citizens armed themselves and was preparing for a gunfight, which started when the gang left the bank.
In the fight where Town Marshal Charles Connelly, Grat Dalton, Bob Dalton, Dick Broadwell and Bill Powers killed.
Emmet Dalton where hit 23 times but survived, he was senteced to life in prison but was released after 14 years.
He then moved to California and become a real estate agent, author and actor, he died in 1937 at the age of 66.
