Johannes Paulus II was the pope from 1978 untill his death in 2005, he used to do flagenation, its a exercise where you whip yourself as a reminder of Christ sacrifise on the cross. It´s claimed by the priest Slawomir Oder which has for the Vatican researched if the pope should be canonised as a saint. The result is presented in the book ”Why he is a saint”.
Oder writes that Johannes Paulus had a belt in his wardrobe that he used when he beat himself. Acording to Oder there is no doubt that the katolic church should prononuce Johannes Paulus II as a saint.
