Voytek was adopted by some Polish soliders during WWII, during time he become very tame. In 1944 he was enlisted in the army, given a name, rank and number, he lived in a tent and helped to carry ammuntion and food.
Pretty strange destiny for a brownbear indeed…
At the end of the war Voytek ended up in Great Britain along whit his troups, when the troups where closing down, Voytek was placed in Edingburgh Zoo where he lived until his death 1963.
It is said that he gladly took a cup of tea and liked when people talked to him in polish.
A scotish sculptur is engaged to create a monument over Voytek, it will bli placed outside the Scothis parlament in Edingburg.
